What actually makes turf work in shaded areas
In shaded parts of your yard, the main issue is not lack of sun hurting the turf itself. Artificial grass does not need sunlight to grow. The real issue is moisture. Shady spots dry slower after rain, irrigation or morning dew. That can mean a damp feel underfoot, more organic build-up from leaves and bark, and a higher chance of odour if pets use the area. The best artificial grass for shade is usually a premium synthetic lawn with good drainage through the backing and a properly prepared base underneath. You also want fibres that recover reasonably well from foot traffic, because shaded spaces are often narrower walkways or side access paths. A natural-looking colour still matters, but a nice shade of green will not fix poor drainage. Installation is what decides whether the area stays usable or turns into a wet, compacted patch.
